DEVELOPING READING MATERIALS BASED ON CONTENT AREA FOR GRADE XI SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL AT SMA NEGERI 2 SIBORONGBORONG

This study aims to design reading materials needed for students at SMA Negeri 2 Siborongborong and develop reading materials for students at SMA Negeri 2 Siborongborong. The research was conducted by research and development (R & D) design through six phrases ; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new reading materials, validating new reading materials, revising new reading materials, revised developing reading materials (final product).It was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Siborongborong,especially grade XI. The data gathered by administering interview to English teacher and distributing questionnaire to 30 students to get the students’ needs. The development of reading materials is based on content area which focus on strength the vocabularies,specifically the unfamiliar ones, by giving glossary and related picture. The development text only focus in the first semester which is narrative text. There are 3 text provided, they are: Lake Toba, A women and The Wolves, and Malin Kundang.The products have been validated by experts. The average scores are 4,18 from English lecturer and 4,30 English teacher. Its means the developing materials categorized as relevant or appropriate for students SMA Negeri 2 Siborongborong grade XI.
