Abstract
This research investigates interpersonal metaphor used in the Boss Baby movie based on Systemic
Functional Linguistics approach. The objectives of the study are to identify what elements of
interpersonal metaphor that Boss Baby used in movie, to elaborate how interpersonal metaphor are used
and to explain the elements of used in the Boss Baby movie in the ways they were. The research was
conducted by using qualitative design. The data were analyzed by using interpersonal metaphor to find
out utterances or clauses from two animators in The Boss Baby movie. The data were collected by
download the movie that consists of utterances between Tim and the Baby , then transcribed them into
written forms which have interpersonal metaphor, Identifying the clause which have interpersonal
metaphor metaphor based on the scope of the study, Halliday’s theory and Saragih. The findings of the
study showed that all elements of interpersonal metaphor of mood was 45 %, modality was 21 %, epithet
11 %, euphemism was 2 %, connotation was 1 % and mental process 20 % found in Tim and the Baby
utterances in The Boss Baby movie is realized by the used of making meaning ambiguity, avoiding
negotiation and politeness. Beside three reason of using interpersonal metaphors in the Boss Baby movie
referred to the social context, namely context of situation, culture and ideology
