Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out the forms of reading questions and exploring the proportion of each cognitive level of reading questions in English textbook entilted “Bahasa Inggris” for grade X based on revised Bloom’s Taxonomy. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The data of this study were taken from reading questions in Bahasa Inggris textbook. The findings were : first, there are only three forms of reading questions which consist of Yes/No Questions (12.2%), WH- Questions (86.7%), and Alternative Questions (1.1%); second, cognitive levels found in the textbook were as follows: remembering obtains 124 out of 180 questions (68.9%), the understanding level obtains 30 out of 180 questions (16.7%), the applying level obtains 2 out of 180 questions (1.1%), the analyzing level obtains 17 out of 180 question (9.4%), the evaluating level obtains 7 out of 180 questions (3.9%), and the creating level obtains 0 questions (0%). Remembering and understanding are the most dominant cognitive levels of reading questions in Bahasa Inggris textbook. It can be concluded that the forms of reading questions in Bahasa Inggris textbook did not represent all of Day and Park’s forms of reading questions and the questions on the textbook did not cover all of the cognitive levels.
