Abstract
This research deals with Indonesian-English code mixing in novels. The objectives of this research were: (1) to find out the kinds of code mixing in novels (2) to explain the realization of code mixing in novels (3) to explain the reason why the code mixing used in the novels. The research was a descriptive qualitative research. The data were Indonesian-English utterances produced the characters in the two novels, they are Me & Mr. Perfect and Critical Eleven novel. The findings of this study showed that : 1) It was found that all kinds of code mixing were found in the two novels. The most dominant kinds of code mixing found in novel 1 is insertion then followed by alternation and congruent lexicalization. While in novel 2 the most dominant kinds found is alternation, then followed by insertion and congruent lexicalization.; 2) It was found that the realization of code mixing was in form of word, phrase, clause, and sentence. In novel 1, the word was the most dominant realized followed by phrase, sentence and clause, while in novel 2, the word was also the most dominant realized and followed by phrase, clause and sentence; 3) there were five from ten reasons of code mixing found in both novels. They were talking particular topic, interjection, repetition for clarification, because of lexical need, and to soften and strengthen the request or command. Talking particular topic is the most dominant factors found in both novels. It was also found that new reason of the use of code mixing, that was expressing intimacy
