DEVELOPING ENGLISH SPEAKING MATERIALS FOR GRADE X OF TOURISM VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

This research was aimed to develop speaking materials for the 10th grade students of Tourism study program at SMK Shandy Putra Telkom-2 Medan. This research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through six stages; Gathering information and data, Analyzing data, Designing the first draft of material, Validating by experts, Revising and Designing the final product. The research was conducted in SMK Shandy Putra-2 Telkom Medan. The subject of this research was class X-UPW students of Tourism study program consists of 11 students. The instruments for collecting data used in this research were documentary sheet, questionnaire and interview. The data were gathered by administering interview to the teacher and distributing the questionnaire to 11 respondents to get the students’needs. After analyzing the data, the researcher got the students’ needs. Thus, the result of this study was a supplementary material of English speaking through scientific approach which consists of warm up, objective, questioning, collecting data, associating data, communicating, and reflection. The products have been validated by experts and the developed materials categorized as relevant for Grade X Students of Tourism study Program.
