Abstract

This study presents a research conducted on experiential function in the texts of the daily The Jakarta Post. The main objective was to describe the types of Processes and Circumstances as found in the texts of the daily The Jakarta Post. It was presented a quantitative descriptive dealing with quantifiable (numeric) mode. The sources of data were taken from the texts of The Jakarta Post published in February 2009. Political issues were taken randomly for month. They were taken four weeks; each week with different days. The data were collected by applying the documentary technique. There are 6 headlines were taken as the sample. The data analysis found out The findings indicated that there were 5 types of Process used, they were 68 (68%) Material Process, 4 (4%) Mental Process, 7 (7%) Relational Process, 20 (20%) Verbal Process, and 1 (1 %) Existential Process. The Material Process was dominatly used in the texts. There were four types of Circumstance with the proportions of 6 (19.35%) for extent process, 20 (64.52%) for location, 3 (9.68%) for manner, and 2 (6.45%) for contigency. It was found that the Circumstance Location was dominatly used. It is proved that the use of Process and Circumstance were related to the context of the situation.
