Abstract
The aim of this research is to know the differences and correlation between
student performance in Senior High School (SMA/MA) and University level in
Biology Department UNIMED based on higher education admission system
(SNMPTN, SBMPTN and UMBPTN) in academic year 2016/2017. Research
population consists of 312 students of Biology Department of FMIPA Unimed
2016/2017, while the sample consist of 105 students that was taken by proportional
stratified sampling with details 36 students of SNMPTN admission test, 41 students
of SBMPTN admission test, and 28 students of UMBPTN admission test. SMA/MA
biology achievement, national biology achievement and final examination data
collected by documentation study. Meanwhile, Environmental Biology competency
and student awareness to environment were collected by test and questionnaire.
Research data were analysed by F test (one way ANOVA), stepwise multiple
regression and partial correlation by using SPSS 23.0 for windows. Research result
showed, student admission significantly influence to report card (X1) (Fh=10,887;
p=0,000) and also showed significantly influence to student awareness (Fh=4,746;
p=0,011). However, student admission was not significantly influence to national
examination (X2) (Fh=2,101; p=0,128), final examination (X3) (Fh=2,976; p=0,098)
and also environmental biology competency (Y) (Fh=4,746; p=0,011). Furthermore,
the result of stepwise multiple regression showed, there were very weak significant
correlation between SMA/MA biology achievement, national biology achievement,
and final examination toward student environmental biology competency for
SNMPTN, SBMPTN, and UMBPTN students. The research result recommend
student admission test in higher education by skills and learning outcome test as by
SBMPTN system must be kept and its percentage in student admission must be
increased. In contrast, the number of student that be recruited by SNMPTN system
must be decreased.
