Abstract
This research dealt with illocutionary acts and politeness principle in the movie Twilight. The aim of the strategies used by the characters, (1) to investigate the kinds of illocutionary acts used by the characters in Twilight movie,(2) to explain how the politeness principles used by the characters (3) to know the reasons of those characters in employing politeness principles. The research was conducted by using qualitative design. The source of data of this study was the movie. The data were collected through documentary technique and the instrument was the documentary sheet. The technique of data analysis was descriptive. The findings of this study revealed that: (1) Based on the category of illocutionary acts by Searle, all categories of illocutionary acts were found in this film.(2) The tact maxim was used for eighteen times by the characters the dominant was showed that the characters in Twilight movie behave polite.. (3)The reason of using politeness principles influenced culture, social distance, context.
