PAUSE FILLERS IN RITUAL SPEECH OF PADANG BOLAK WEDDING CEREMONY

This study deals with Pause Fillers in the Ritual Speech of Padang Bolak Ceremony. It employed qualitative research design with a single case study to gain an undersatnding on this study. It was conducted descriptively. This study aimed to (1) find out the types of Pause Fillers in Ritual Speech of Padang Bolak Ceremony,(2) to describe the process of pause fillers in Ritual Speech of Padang Bolak Ceremony and the reason of pause fillers in Ritual Speech of Padang Bolak Ceremony occured. The subject of this study was speaker speech in Padang Bolak Ceremony.The data of this study were pause fillers occured in Padang Bolak Wedding Ceremony. The theories of Maclay & Osgood (1959),Goldman Eisler (1961), Rochester (1972) and Brennan and William (1995) were used in this study. The data were analyzed by Miles and Hubberman (2014). There was only one type of pause fillers used by the speaker in Ritual Speech of Padang Bolak Ceremony namely filled pause. And it included in cetegorizing lexicalize namely artina, ima, attong, songondiamattong,biamattong, jadi and idiamattong. While cognitive, hasitation and word searching were the process of pause fillers used by the speaker in Ritual Speech of Padang Bolak Ceremon and the reason of pause fillers used in Ritual Speech of Padang Bolak Ceremony namely uncertain answer,less confident and delay speech.
