Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of personal competence of teachers to work motivation and performance of teachers in SMA Medan. This type of research used in study is explanatory research as well as the method used is the method of ex post facto on basis that the research carried out relatively non-experimental. Ex post facto method used to the hypothesis that there is a significant relationship between the independent competence of the teacher's personality competency on work motivation and performance as the dependent variable. The population in this study was a teacher at Senior High School in Medan as many as 241 teachers. This research uses descriptive statistic
analysis and inferensial analysis used to determine the effect of personal competence to work motivation and performance of teachers at State Senior High School in Medan. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18 for windows. Based on the results of inferential analyzes path analysis techniques (path analysis) using a significance level a= 0.05 value obtained coefficients between personal competence of teachers to work motivation of teachers and path coefficient of 0.169 between personal competence of teachers on teacher performance 0.350. This indicate that the personality of the teacher competence variables have a significant influence on work motivation and performance of teachers at State Senior High School
