REPRESSION AND DISPLACEMENT OF MAIN CHARACTER IN ELIZABETH GILBERT’S NOVEL EAT PRAYLOVE(A PSYCHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS)

This study deals with Repression and Displacement of Main Character in Elizabeth Gilberts Novel Eat, Pray, Love. The objectives of this study were to find out the causing of repressions and the displacements in the novel. This study was limited to analyze Liz as the main character. This study applied descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken from Elizabeth Gilberts novel Eat, Pray, Love. The findings indicated that Liz faced repressions which are caused by two factors; self identity crisis (Lizs disability to recognize herself, Lizs disorientation to recognize God, and Lizs lasted over in anxiety) and marriage conflicts (Lizs unavailability for having a baby, Lizs disability to love and understand her husband, and Lizs decision to divorce her husband). And then the displacements that occurred to the main character after facing repression are disorder eating habit, converting new orientation of spiritual life and losing faith about marriage.
