Abstract

This study is attempted to improve students achievement in writing reports by applying Virtual Field Trips (VFTs) technique. This study was conducted by using classroom action research in two cycles. The first cycle consisted of four meetings while the second cycle consisted of three meetings. The subject of the research was class XI IPS4 SMA Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan. The number of the students was 38. The instruments for collecting data were quantitative and qualitative data. The instrument for quantitative data was writing test. The instruments for qualitative data were interview sheet, observation sheet, and diary note. Based on the writing score, students score kept improving in every test. In the test I, the mean score was 27.73 in the test II the mean of writing score was 73.86 in the test III the mean of writing score was 80.36. Based on the diary notes, observation sheet and interview sheet, it was found that teaching-learning process ran well. In line with the data, it was showed that the application of Virtual Field Trips (VFTs) technique significantly improved students achievement in writing report. English teachers are suggested to apply Virtual Field Trips (VFTs) technique as one of the alternatives to be applied in writing reports in the class.
