Abstract
The study deals with the types of flouting maxims In Indonesia Lawyers Clubs (ILC) Talk Show Program On TV One (KPK VS POLRI: Ujungnya sampai dimana? based on Grice’s cooperative principle. The objectives of study are to find out the maxims which are flouted, to find out the process of dominant flouting maxims and to find out the reasons of dominant flouting maxims which are shown by the interviwees. This research is conducted by document qualitative analysis research design. The data are the utterances of some conversations which were flouted. The data source of this research was taken from ILC talkshow with the topic of “KPK VS POLRI: Ujungnya sampai dimana?” which was displayed on February 15th, 2014 that was obtained from the video on internet. The data is analyzed by using Miles and Huberman (1994) with the three phases of data analysis. i.e.(1) data reduction, (2) data display, (3) conclusion and verification. The result shows that all types of maxims are flouted by participants namely: maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relevance and maxim of manner. Besides, also found the flouting maxims of combination in ILC talk show. Flouting maxim of quantity is the highest number in ILC talk show. The total number of flouting maxim of Quantity is seventy three. The second most frequently is flouting maxim of relevance which the total number is twenty one. The third is the flouting maxim of manner. There are six flouting maxim of manner applied by them. The last is flouting maxim of quality which the total number is three . A process by which dominant maxim is flouted for the purpose of getting an implicature. The most dominant reasons usually carried out by giving detail explanation to give more information to stress and to expect something in order to make the intended meaning more clear for the listener to follow. The writer can conclude that in ILC talk show the guests mostly give more information than required to make viewers easy to understand their conversation. It can prove that flouting maxim does not always make the conversation unsuccessful, even it make the hearer getting clear information. The writer suggest the reader to comprehend the flouting maxim deeply in order that they can chose which one is appropriate and which one is not appropriate applied in their conversation.
