Abstract
The type of this research is quasi experiment. The aim of this research is to know whether students mathematical representation ability by using cooperative learning model type TGT better than conventional learning. The population is all students at class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Tanjung Morawa Academic Year 2014/2015. The taking sample by cluster random sampling obtained that the sample of this research conduct two classes namely VIII 1 as experimental class by using cooperative learning model type TGT and VIII 2 as control class by using conventional learning. This research using pretest, posttest and n-gain data and was analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis.There are six problem for pretest and posttest. All the problem are valid. From the result of conditional test of data, all of data from pretest, posttest and n-gain are normal distribution and homogeneous. The result of the research shows that the means score of pretest in experiment class and control class are 6.56 and 6.06. After doing treatment in experiment and control class obtained the means score are 18.19 and 12.78 while for means of n-gain obtained 0.67 in experiment class and 0.37 in control class. Descriptively, can see that the means score of posttest and n-gain data the students mathematical representation ability by using cooperative learning type TGT better than conventional learning. Therefore in hypothesis using posttest and n-gain data obtained that significant value (one-tailed) < alpha value = 0.000 < 0.05 withfor posttest data and significant value (one-tailed) < alpha value = 0.000 < 0.05 for n-gain data so consequently H0 is rejected and H1 accepted. So it can be conclude that the students mathematical representation ability using cooperative model type TGT is better than using conventional learning in Grade VIII SMP Negeri 1 Tanjung Morawa Academic Year 2014/2015. Based on research that has been done, mathematics teacher suggested can use cooperative learning model type TGT as learning model alternative in develop students mathematical representation.
