STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION TEXT AT ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMA N 1 PANGKALAN LESUNG

Research about students’ ability is important to do to help both teachers and students
that the result of this research was able to inform the teacher about students’ ability in
writing analytical exposition text due or in tune with rule of writing the text. This
study was aimed to describe the students’ writing ability in analytical exposition text
and to investigate the students’ problem that dominated in writing analytical
exposition text. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Pangkalan Lesung.
This research used descriptive quantitative method. The participants of the research
were 27 eleventh grade students. The data were obtained by giving students analytical
exposition writing test and using rubric in scoring the test. The results depicted that
the average ability of students in writing analytical exposition text was 74.67. After
being converted to a hundred scale, the average falls in intervals of 46%-55% with a
score range of 72.76-76.57. The result of this research showed that the ability to write
analytical exposition text students of class XI-MIPA 1 SMA N 1 Pangkalan Lesung
was average and the problem that faced by student were content aspect to develop
sentences from existing ideas that found by number of 14 or 51.85% students
