Abstract

The objectives of this research are (1) to find out how extent English learning materials are appropriate for RA GUPPI kindergarten institution based on character building concept. (2) to observe the English learning materials for RA GUPPI kindergarten institution are developed based on character building concept and (3) to analyze the reasons why the English learning materials for RA GUPPI kindergarten institution based on character building concept are developed. This study was R & D. The data used in this study were in the forms of texts in the English supplementary textbook for Kindergarten level. The primary instrument of the research was the researcher and the data sheet was also employed as the second instrument. Some steps were undertaken during the data collection: collecting data, evaluating the first draft, revising and writing the final draft of the materials. The results showed that there were three points of findings discussed in this research. 1. All 18 characters namely creativity, independence, democracy, curiosity, spirit of nationality, nationalism, achievement appreciation, friendliness/communicativeness, love of peace, love reading, environmental care, social care and responsibility are implied in each theme through some students activities are implied in every theme. 2. The design of English learning materials for RA GUPPI kindergarten institution based on character building concept covers five stages namely ; Need Analysis, Evaluating the Existing English Materials Reviewing the principles of Character Building Concepts, Developing New English Materials and the last stage namely Reviewing and Validating the New English Materials. 3. The reasons why the English learning materials for RA GUPPI kindergarten institution based on character building concept are developed because of young generation and adverse environmental effect factors. The teacher should use the Character Building Concept to all the other school subjects to stimulate the children’s awareness of what they are learning.
