Abstract

The study was aimed to develop the reading questions of summative test for the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Binjai. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R&D) design through six stages; gathering information and data, defining the construct to be measured, developing learning indicators, developing reading question, revising, and final product. The subject of the study was Grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Binjai. The instruments of data collection were gathered by administering observation and distributing questionnaire. The study conducted observation to obtain the syllabus and lesson plan used by the English teacher and distributing questionnaire to validator to validate the reading questions. The observation results showed that the summative test created by the English teacher was inappropriate with the syllabus and lesson plan. The product validated by the experts namely English lecturer and English teacher. The average percentage of validation from the experts is 93.8% and it is categorized as relevant. The result of experts’ validation showed that the reading questions of summative test is valid and appropriate to use as one of the components in completing an effective summative test for the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Binjai.
