Abstract

This thesis focuses on the study of fillers used by kindergarten students. The research method used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The data of this research was analyze by Interactive Model of Miles, Huberman and Saldana (2014). The purpose of the study was: (1) to describe the types of fillers used by kindergarten students in telling picture; (2) to elaborate the occurrences of fillers used by kindergarten students in telling picture; (3) to describe the function of fillers used by kindergarten students. The subject of this study were 20 kindergarten students. All of the 20 sources of data are five years old. And all kindergarten students had been the sources of the data. It was based on theory of Arikunto (2010), if the subjects are under 100, it is better to take all as the subjects. The data of this research were the utterances consisting of fillers in the form of the lexical empty (sounds), words and phrases of fillers used by the Kindergarten students when telling picture. And the instrument of collecting the data here used observation. Based on the data analysis proved that : (1) the types of fillers used by kindergarten students in telling picture were lexicalized and unlexicalized fillers, (2) the occurrences of fillers used by kindergarten students occurred in three location, at the boundary (front), after the first word (in the middle) and later (in the last sentence), and (3) the function of fillers used by kindergarten students in telling picture were found three functions, they were as hesitating, empathizing and editing terms.
