Abstract

The research was focused on gender biased language in Hip-hopsongs lyrics. This study was aimed at identifythe types of gender bias on the language as manifested in the lyrics, as well as to find out how gender portrayed in the lyrics of Hip-hop songs. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative method. The source of data was lyrics from 10 songs by two Hip-hop artists namely Eminem and Nicki Minaj, taken by random sampling. The result of this research was main type of gender biased language found in the lyrics is Overt. As for the depicting of gender, it was found that men still in higher position rather than women, while women are portrayed as subordinate gender in society.
