Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui: (1) apakah kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematik siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran berbasis masalah (PBM) lebih baik dari pada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. (2) Untuk mengetahui apakah kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran berbasis masalah (PBM) lebih baik dari pada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. (3) interaksi antara model pembelajaran dan kemampuan awal matematika siswa terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa (4) interaksi antara model pembelajaran dan kemampuan awal matematika siswa terhadap komunikasi matematik siswa, (5) peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematik siswa setelah memperoleh pembelajaran berbasis masalah (PBM) (6) peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa setelah memperoleh pembelajaran berbasis masalah (PBM). (7) bagaimana proses penyelesaian jawaban yang dibuat siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah mengenai kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan komunikasi matematik siswa pada pembelajaran berbasis masalah (PBM) dan pembelajaran biasa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 4 Medan. Kemudian secara acak dipilih dua kelas berjumlah 72 orang. Kelas eksperimen diberi perlakuan pembelajaran berbasis masalah dan kelas kontrol diberi perlakuan pembelajaran biasa. Instrumen yang digunakan terdiri dari: (1) tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika, (2) tes kemampuan komunikasi matematika. Instrumen tersebut dinyatakan telah memenuhi syarat validitas isi, serta koefisien reliabilitas sebesar 0,891 dan 0,708 berturut-turut untuk kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika dan komunikasi matematik. Analisis data dilakukan dengan analisis uji T dan ANAVA dua jalus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematik siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran berbasis masalah (PBM) lebih baik dari pada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil analisis uji statistik untuk Thitung =10,029 lebih besar Ttabel adalah 2,75 dan hasil postes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematik siswa diperoleh X ̅ kelas eksperimen 53,4444 dan X ̅ kelas kontrol 40,3056. (2) Untuk mengetahui apakah kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran berbasis masalah (PBM) lebih baik dari pada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil analisis uji statistik untuk Thitung =11,716 lebih besar Ttabel adalah 2,75 dan hasil postes kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa diperoleh X ̅ kelas eksperimen 38,2222 dan X ̅ kelas kontrol 31,1389. (3) Tidak terdapat interaksi antara model pembelajaran dan kemampuan awal matematika siswa terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa. (4) Tidak terdapat interaksi antara model pembelajaran dan kemampuan awal matematika siswa terhadap komunikasi matematik siswa (5) Peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematik siswa yang diberi pembelajaran berbasis masalah dengan rata-rata N-Gain sebesar 0,7 adalah tinggi. (6) Peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa yang diberi pembelajaran berbasis masalah dengan rata-rata N-Gain sebesar 0,8 adalah tinggi. (7) Proses penyelesaian jawaban siswa yang pembelajaranya dengan mengunakan pembelajaran berbasis masalah lebih baik dibandingkan dengan pembelajaran biasa.
