Abstract
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is used as a food flavor enhancer has many side effects including, damage to liver function. This study examines the effect of ethanol extract of mangosteen peel (EEKM) compared with vitamin E on liver tampered with MSG, using true experimental designs. By using a sample of 20 male mice were divided into 4 treatment groups. Group (P0): control / distilled water 0.3 ml / mice / day (35 days), (P1): MSG 8mg/grBB mice / day (21 days), (P2): MSG 8mg/grBB mice / day (21 days ) followed EEKM 600mg/grBB/mice/hari (14 days), (P3): MSG 8 mg / grBB mice / day (21 days) followed vitamin E 0.2 mg / grBB mice / day (14 days), no significant differences serum levels of AST in P1 than P2, P3 (p <0.05), there was no significant difference between P2 compared to P3 (p> 0.05), for serum ALT levels, no significant differences in P1 compared to P2 (p <0, 05), but no significant difference between P2 compared to P3 (p> 0.05), there was no significant difference between P2 compared to P3 (p> 0, 05). Concluded that vitamin E may be able to reduce levels of serum AST, compared EEKM, whereas serum levels of ALT, EEKM not much different in lowering serum ALT levels compared with vitamin E
