Abstract

This research is aimed to know (1) whether the increasing of students concept understanding through guided inquiry helped by Autograph software is better than students concept understanding through usual approach, (2) whether the increasing of students mathematical comunicating ability through guided inquiry helped by Autograph software is better than student’s mathematical comunicating ability through usual approach, (3) how the students learning completeness is (4) and how the student’s learning activity is. This is an experimental research conducted in SMK Telkom Sandhy Putra and SMK Sandhy Putra II Medan (Kelompok Pariwisata) with the population are all the students in grade XI of the schools and two classes from each school were randomly taken as samples. Instruments in this research are : (1) concept understanding test, (2) mathematical comunicating test, and observation sheet of students learning activity. Those instrumens had been validated by the experts and try out of those instruments show that all questions in concept understanding and comunication test are valid. The correlation coeficient for concept understanding test is 0,8 and for comunicating test is 0,72. To see the difference of increasing of concept understanding and mathematical comunicating ability between students getting guided inquiry approach helped by Autograph software and students getting usual approach, t - test is applied in α = 0,05 after the qualification is fulfilled. The research shows that (1) the increasing of student’s concept understanding through guided inquiry helped by Autograph software (0,67) is better than students concept understanding through usual approach (0,53), (2) the increasing of student’s mathematical comunicating ability through guided inquiry helped by Autograph software (0,67) is better than students mathematical comunicating ability through usual approach (0,48), (3) the learning completeness of students getting guided inquiry approach helped by Autograph software is better than learning completeness of students getting usual approach and (4) and students getting guided inquiry approach helped by Autograph software are more actively engaged in learning (83%) than students getting usual approach (68,78%). This research suggest that teachers and students should apply the guided inquiry approach to the relevant topics as an alternatif of learning approach and should use laerning media such as Autograph since it is able to increase concept understanding, mathematical comunicating ability, completeness and students’ learning activities more than usual approach. For the next research, it should be prepared well about facilities, Autograph training and time efficiency.
