Abstract
The aim of this study was to develop a Scratch-based interactive worksheet for teaching reading comprehension of descriptive texts for eighth-grade of SMP N 14 Medan. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design adapted from Borg and Gall (2003) which consisted of six stages : gathering data and information, analyzing the data, developing the product, conducting expert validation, revising the product, and producing the final product. The participants was 25 eighth-grade students and one English teacher at SMP N 14 Medan. The data were collected through documentation of Learning Outcomes and teaching materials, questionnaires to identify students’ needs, and interviews with English teacher. The findings of the needs analysis indicated that the existing worksheets were still conventional and less interactive, which caused students to have low motivation and difficulties in reading comprehension, particularly in vocabulary mastery. The developed product was validated by two experts using a validation sheet covering linguistic, process, product and content, layout and technological aspects. The results of the expert validation showed that the worksheet obtained an average score of 92,38%, categorized as very good. Therefore, the scratch-based interactive worksheet was considered feasible and appropriate to be used as a learning medium to support students’ reading comprehension of descriptive texta.
