Abstract
This study aims to analyze the representation of 21st century skills in writing task
of English Textbook entitled Work in Progress Grade This research used a
qualitative research design with a content analysis approach assisted by
documentation and coding sheets as research instruments. In terms of 21st century
skills, all tasks were found to represent at least one of the four skills; however, the
distribution was uneven. Communication and critical thinking were the most
frequently represented skills, each appearing in 67.57% of the tasks. Meanwhile,
creativity was represented in 21.62% of the tasks, and collaboration was the least
represented skill at 8.11%. These findings suggest that the textbook emphasizes
structured communication and basic analytical skills, while providing limited
opportunities for creativity and collaborative learning. Overall, the study concludes
that although the textbook incorporates elements of 21st century skills, their
integration is not yet balanced. The dominance of guided and controlled tasks
contributes to the uneven representation of skills, indicating the need for more
varied and open-ended writing activities to better support the development of all
four 21st century skills.
