Abstract
This study aims to develop an e-module for teaching narrative text for tenth-grade
students of SMA Gajah Mada Medan based on students’ learning needs and the
principles of the Merdeka Curriculum. This research applied a Research and
Development (R&D) design adapted from Gall et al. (2003), consisting of six
stages: gathering data and information, needs analysis, product design, expert
validation, product revision, and final product development. The data was collected
through questionnaires distributed to 36 students to identify target needs
(necessities, lacks, and wants) and learning needs based on Hutchinson and Waters
(1987). The results revealed that more than 94% of students agreed on the
importance of understanding the social function, generic structure, language
features, and vocabulary of narrative text, while 61.11% of students had difficulty
understanding the content and 66.66% had difficulty identifying the generic
structure. In addition, students showed a strong preference for interactive,
multimedia-based, and flexible digital learning materials. Based on these findings,
an e-module was developed using the Heyzine Flipbook platform by integrating
narrative text materials, multimedia elements, and the Genre-Based Approach. The
developed product was evaluated based on BSKAP (2024) standards covering
content, language, presentation, and media feasibility, and the results indicated that
the e-module was categorized as very good and highly feasible. Therefore, the emodule
can serve as an effective digital learning material to improve students’
understanding of narrative text and promote independent learning.
