The Use of Wordwall Web as A Media in Teaching Recount Text for Grade VIII at SMP Swasta Islam Nur Ihsan Medan

In today's digital era, integrating technology into English teaching is
crucial to support students’ learning and engagement. This study aimed to (1)
analyze the use of Wordwall web as a media in teaching recount text for grade
VIII and (2) to find out the teacher’s reasons for using Wordwall web as a
media in teaching recount text for grade VIII. The research design of this study
was descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected through
observations, interviews, and documentation from the teacher who taught in
grade VIII at SMP Swasta Islam Nur Ihsan Medan, then analyzed using the
TPACK theory by Punya Mishra and Matthew J. Koehler (2006) as well as the
data analysis model by Matthew B. Miles, A. Michael Huberman, and Johnny
Saldaña (1990), which consisted of data condensation, data display, and
concluding. The findings showed that the teacher implemented all components
of the TPACK framework in teaching recount text. The teacher integrated
technological knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, content knowledge,
technological pedagogical knowledge, technological content knowledge, and
pedagogical content knowledge to present the material and provided interactive
activities. The teacher’s reasons for using Wordwall web as a media in teaching
recount text were that Wordwall web was easy to use, provided interactive and
repetitive exercises, and positively affected students’ comprehension of
recount text.
