Abstract

This study looks at how @sonu_paii uses experiential metafunction in paid promotional videos. It also examines how those experiential meanings appear in the videos and how gender is represented through them. To do that, the study uses a qualitative textual analysis approach based on Systemic Functional Linguistics or SFL from Halliday and Matthiessen (2014). The data came from documentation.
The analysis shows five types of experiential processes in @sonu_paii‘s paid promotional videos. Material processes appear 11 times or 31.4 percent. Mental processes appear 3 times or 8.6 percent. Relational processes appear 17 times or 48.6 percent. Verbal processes appear 2 times or 5.7 percent. Existential processes appear 2 times or 5.7 percent. Among these, relational processes show up the most.
The study also finds how experiential meaning is built in the videos. There are 35 words functioning as processes or 38.9 percent. There are 32 words functioning as participants or 35.6 percent. Then there are 23 words functioning as circumstances or 25.5 percent. These patterns show how the videos organize meaning and shape the way gender is presented.
Gender representation in @Sonu_Paii‘s promotional videos appears through roles, character traits, and a communication function that feels distinctive and humorous. Two communication function are found. In the interactional function, masculine forms appear 2 times or 6.5 percent, while feminine forms appear 23 times or 74.1 percent. In the transactional function, masculine forms appear 4 times or 12.9 percent, while feminine forms appear 2 times or 6.5 percent. The interactional function is the most dominant. This means the videos rely more on relationship building and expressive interaction when showing gender.
