Abstract
This research investigates the use of Randall‘s ESL Cyber Listening Lab
(RECLL) as a digital tool to support the teaching of listening comprehension in an
Indonesian high school context. The study aimed to identify how the teacher
utilized RECLL in the listening classroom and to explore the challenges faced
during its integration. This research employed a qualitative descriptive design
involving classroom observations and in-depth interviews with an English teacher
at SMA Negeri 1 Medan. The findings revealed that the teacher implemented the
RECLL website following the framework of Vandergrift and Goh (2012), which
includes the pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening stages. The teacher
selected materials appropriate to students‘ proficiency levels and guided them
through prediction, verification, and reflection activities. Despite its effectiveness
in engaging students and improving their listening comprehension, several
challenges were encountered during the process, particularly in pedagogical and
technological aspects. These included difficulties in managing mixed-proficiency
classrooms and issues with equipment such as speakers, projectors, and internet
connectivity. Overall, this study highlights that RECLL can be an effective
supplementary tool for teaching listening when supported by adequate
technological facilities and pedagogical preparation.
