Abstract
This research aims to develop a digital scrapbook using Canva as a learning medium
to improve students’ ability in writing recount texts. The study employed the Research
and Development (R&D) method adapted from Borg & Gall, which consisted of six
stages: data collection, needs analysis, product development, expert validation,
revision, and final product. The participants were 31 eighth-grade students of SMPN
5 Medan and one English teacher. The needs analysis revealed that students struggled
with generating ideas and mastering grammar, particularly the use of the past tense.
Based on these findings, a digital scrapbook was designed by combining texts, images,
and visual elements that followed the scientific approach stages. The expert validation
results showed an average score of 96% (very good), which indicated that the media
was feasible for classroom use. The final product was found effective in fostering
students’ motivation, creativity, and writing skills in recount texts.
