POSTCOLONIALISM IN THE MOVIE JOJO RABBIT BY TAIKA WAITITI (2019)

This study examines how postcolonial ideas are reflected in the movie Jojo Rabbit (2019) through its scenes and dialogues. The analysis focuses on the forms of postcolonialism that appear in the movie, especially mimicry and hybridity as formulated by Homi K. Bhabha (1994), along with the concept of the subaltern introduced by Gayatri Spivak (2014). Using a qualitative descriptive method, the
researcher observes selected scenes to identify signs of colonial influence, resistance, and the formation of hybrid identities. The findings show that the movie presents several acts of mimicry through characters who imitate dominant power structures, while hybridity is visible in the blending of cultural behaviors shaped by Nazi ideology and personal identity. The presence of marginalized
figures also reflects the subaltern position within the narrative. Overall, the study highlights how the movie reshapes postcolonial themes through satire, wartime
depiction, and character transformation.
