TranslatingStrategies In Translating Idiomatic Expressions From English into Indoesian In The Subtitle Of “Coco” Movie

Idiomatic expressions is a multiword combination with non-productive syntactic
structure and a semantic unit whose meaning cannot be deduced from the
meanings of its elements and require strategies to convey the closest meaning in
the target language. This study aims to investigate the translation strategies used
in translating idiomatic phrase from English into Indonesian and the types of
idiomatic expressions in the subtitle of the film Coco. The data for this study was
gathered using a documentation approach. The data of this are collected from
subscene.com by Akatsuki.P. In data analysis, this research used data analysis
techniques by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). There are 35 data collected
and analyzed. There are two important things in the findings of this research. (1)
There are three strategies used in translating idiomatic expressions in target
language, 1 data are translated using an idiom of similar meaning and form, 1 data
are translated using an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form and the
mostly used strategy by the translator in translating English idiomatic expressions
into Bahasa Indonesia is translations by paraphrase with 22 data. The translator
does not use translation by omission. (2) there are types of idiomatic expressions
are find out, 2 data of literal idioms, 11 data of semi idioms and the most
commonly found is pure idiom with 22 data.
