Abstract

This research focuses on analyzing Ming Lee's character as a mother in ―Turning Red‖ film, referring to the nature of a good mother or bad mother, and finding out how the film represents a mother based on Ming Lee's character. This research uses the constructionist approach theory by Stuart Hall and a concept of motherhood by Johnston and Swanson using the descriptive qualitative method by observing scenes in the film Turning Red. The research findings show that Ming Lee's character is a good mother characteristic. The film emphasizes that Ming‘s actions are driven by unconditional love for her daughter. ―Turning Red‖ shows
that Ming Lee's character represents a multifaceted mother. This complexity reflects real-life motherhood, showing that mothers are not perfect—they are shaped by their own experiences, pressures, and emotions. Ming‘s journey
demonstrates that being a good mother involves learning, adapting, and letting go.
