ANALYSIS OF SLANG WORDS IN THE LYRICS OF KATY PERRY’S “TEENAGE DREAM” ALBUM

The study focused with the slang words in song lyrics by Katy Perry‟s “Teenage Dream” Album. The source of data was the album Teenage Dream which is released in 2010 by selecting 5 song lyrics of the album. The study approached
Yule‟s (2010) theory about slang words and word formation process. It also used descriptive qualitative method. For the findings, it was found that there were 62 formed slang words and there were 8 out of 9 types that has been analyzed. They were Coinage 11 (18%), Borrowing 8 (13%), Compounding 3 (5%), Blending 31 (50%), Clipping 4 (6%), Back Formation 0 (0%), Conversion 2 (3%), Acronym 2 (3%), and Derivation 1 (2%). Therefore, with this study and many other could be the proof that the theory applied was succesfully used to gain the function of slang words in English speaker country by analyzing the music of that society.
