Abstract
This study aims to describe how teachers teach production and comprehension of analytical exposition texts to eleventh grade students of senior high school in Medan and to reveal the underlying reasons why they do so. This study was
conducted using a qualitative descriptive research design. The subjects of this study were two English teachers who teach eleventh grade students of senior high school PAB 8 Saentis, Medan. The data of this study were in the form of
recordings of teacher and student speech during the reading learning process and interview transcripts collected through observation, recording, and interviews, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman technique. The findings of this study
indicate that most of the teachers' methods focus more on teaching text comprehension. They provide less production instruction in learning analytical exposition texts. The reasons underlying the teachers' ways in teaching production
and comprehension of analytical exposition texts do not facilitate production.
