Abstract
This study aims to analyze the implementation of the scientific approach in teaching reading comprehension in the tenth-grade students. This study discusses how teachers apply the scientific approach in teaching learning process and teachers‟ problems faced in applying the scientific approach in teaching reading comprehension. Data were collected during three meetings and there were two
English teachers in the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Dolok Merawan. This study used a descriptive qualitative design. Data were gained by the following instruments: observation, interview and documentation. The findings of
this study revealed that the first teacher has been able to apply the five steps of the scientific approach namely observing, questioning, experimenting, associating and
communicating. Meanwhile, the second teacher only apply four stages namely observing, experimenting, associating and communicating. Then, the obstacles faced by first teacher are students‟ lack of vocabulary, lack of curiosity, students‟ incorrect pronunciation and limited technology. And the obstacles faced by second teacher are students‟ lack of vocabulary, students‟ incorrect pronunciation, time
limitation and limited technology.
