Abstract
This research identifies the types of speech acts used in Jay Shetty's YouTube Podcast with the theme Building Confidence And Overcoming Fears through content analysis, based on Weigand's taxonomy (2010), which contains four
categories of speech acts, including declarative, exploratory, directive, and representative. This taxonomy explains the actions and reactions of the two communication actors. This research aims to explain the dominant types of speech acts that are most widely used in podcasts and how speech acts are displayed in podcasts. Using qualitative descriptive methods, researchers describe and interpret the speech acts used in podcasts. The findings revealed three speech acts used in the three video podcast contents. Among the speech act processes are 32 utterances for declarative speech acts, 31 for exploratory speech acts, and 12 for
representative speech acts. The research concluded that the exploratory speech act type was the dominant or most frequently appearing type of speech act on Jay Shetty's YouTube Podcast from the videos of his three podcasts with Kendall Jenner, Trevor Noah, and Jerrod Carmichael. For the type of directive speech act in these three podcast titles, there are no action-reaction utterances from the two communicators, which means that their speech is included in the directive speech act.
