Abstract
In communication, humor is one way for someone to convey something, either directly or indirectly. Humor can be expressed as a complex phenomenon by crafting verbal and non-verbal jokes that prompt listeners or readers to identify certain points or patterns that entertain others. The purpose of this study analyze the types and the realization of verbal humor in Matt Rife's stand-up comedy
video entitled Walking Red Flag. The writer applied a qualitative textual analysis research method with the theory of humor according to Shade (1996). This study found 6 out of 12 types of verbal humor in the video, including pun, jokes, farce, irony, sarcasm, and wit. The writer found that from 25 verbal humor appearances, Matt Rife mostly used irony and sarcasm because it is perfect for exploring the
walking red flag as it provides an opportunity to deliver keen social criticism in a humorous and indirect way.
