Abstract
The purposes of conducting this research were (1) to identify the types of thinking maps used by teacher in teaching recount text, (2) to analyze the use of thinking
maps strategy by teacher in teaching recount text. The subject of this research was the teacher of English at Panca Budi Junior High School. The researcher collected the data using observation of learning in the classroom, interview the teacher, and transcript analysis. The result showed that, (1) the teacher mentioned all types of thinking, but these three types of thinking maps were mentioned more that once, they are (a) Tree Map, (b) Flow Map, and (c) Multi Flow Map, with the percentage 18.18% on each types. (2) The use of thinking maps support the students' cognitive processes, including (a) organizing coherence, (b)
chronological order, (c) identifying key details, and (d) structuring ideas.
