Abstract
Interaction is an action and communication between two or more people that involves an exchange of ideas and feelings that can influence each other, classroom interaction is essential for both teachers and students. This research aimed to analyse the EFL classroom interaction at SMP Negeri 3 Percut Sei Tuan. This research used descriptive qualitative method as follow; observation, audio recording, and transcript as the technique collecting data. The research consists of two meetings in grade 8-9 of SMP Negeri 3 Percut Sei Tuan. This research used the theory of Flanders (1970) where there are ten categories of interaction in the
classroom. This research found that (1) in the EFL classroom interaction there are all categories of Flanders. There are 153 frequencies that teacher and students used in the EFL classroom interaction including silences or confuse. Teacher talk has used 79 times frequencies, student talk has used 61 times frequencies and silences or confuse has used 13 times frequencies. (2) The dominant category of this EFL classroom interaction is student talk response which is used 53 times with percentage 34.64%, students are active responding the teacher during teaching and learning process.
