Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning model on problem-solving ability on science material in class VII. This research was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sampling method was using a random sampling technique. The population in this study consisted of all students in junior high school SMPN 27 Medan. The study sample consisted of 52 students, namely 26 students in grade VIII-6 and 26 students in grade VIII-10. Data analysis was performed with an independent t-test using SPSS version 25. The data analysis results showed that the experimental class's posttest mean score was 79,58 and the average value in the control class was 63,15, meaning that the average value of the experimental class was higher than the control class. The two-mean difference test using the t-test was significant (2-tailed) 0.000 < α = 0.05, meaning that the posttest score of students' experiment class problem-solving ability differed from the average post-test score of students' conventional class problem-solving ability. The results of this study indicate an effect of the Problem-Based Learning model on the problem-solving ability of students on science material in class VII.
