Abstract

This research was aimed to create a Monopoly game that would be utilized as a
teaching tool for eighth-grade students to write Notice and Announcement texts,
therefore improving their writing skills and increasing their enthusiasm for learning.
R&D or Research and development was used in this research, which followed 6
phases from Borg and Gall (2003), namely 1) gathering information and data, 2)
analyzing data, 3) designing materials, 4) validating by experts, 5) revising
materials, and 6) final product. The research subjects were twenty-nine eighth grade
students. Interview sheet were used to get qualitative data in this study, while the
questionnaire were used to collect quantitative data on the demands of the students
and the expert's validation. The media was assessed by two experts. The validation
sheet indicated that it scored 90% in linguistics, 100% in process, 88.5% in layout,
and 90% in product and content. The media produced was suitable for teaching
eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Pancur Batu how to write short functional texts
(notices & announcements), the "very good" criteria were met, on average, by the
validation's score of 92%.
