Abstract

This research was conducted on eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 35 Medan during learning English vocabulary students with question and answer techniques with recount text material. Using questionnaires, interviews, and interviews, data was collected from 29 class VIII students of SMP 35 MEDAN. The method used is Mix Method Research (MMR) to calculate the data. The results show that 86.5% of students believe that the question and answer technique is effective for increasing student understanding and adding new vocabulary in students' English with the question and answer technique and this technique is well used in teaching students' speaking English in class. This study found that using the question and answer technique was able to provide new enthusiasm to students and students were also more active when learning and encouraging students to improve speaking skills. The use of pictures on paper as a medium for recount text material is easy to understand and facilitates learning in class activity. Overall, this study found that the question and answer technique was useful and effective way to improve students' English vocabulary learning.
