Abstract

Learning English in schools improving students' understanding of English and
applying it in daily life. One of the activities taught in English is narrative text.
Narrative texts are usually very long and often make students bored and lazy to
learn them. The researcher used Berk's theory in analyzing the teacher’s way of
using animation video in teaching narrative text . The demands of the students
who get bored when reading narrative texts in English are the basis for this study.
Pupils require a resource that will enable them to understand the narrative and
respond to the questions. The solution to this issue found in the animated video.
The goals of this study were to find out how animated videos are used to improve
students' reading comprehension of narrative texts, to explore how students feel
about this approach to learning narrative texts, and to use animated videos to
improve students' reading comprehension of narrative texts. This study employed
a qualitative methodology, gathering data through observation. and interviews for
X-TKR grade student at SMK Gema Bukit Barisan Tanjung Morawa. This study
reported that using animated video to enhance students’ reading in narrative text
played a positive role because it could make it easier for them to find the story's
content and help them answer reading questions. They also really like the medium
because it allows them to describe the chronological events in the story.
Therefore, animated video a suitable medium to enhance students’ reading
comprehension in narrative text.
