Abstract

Movie as a work of art has several elements of art in order to fulfill a spiritual
need which not only serves to entertain the audience but also to provide some kind
of education or knowledge about certain things. The objective of this study was 1)
to describe types of traumatic childhood experienced by Katie in Mockingbird
don’t sing movie and 2) to explain the effect of traumatic childhood in
Mockingbird don’t sing movie. The method used qualitative method in the
research to explain the data, collect data by watching movies repeatedly and then
find to identify data. The result of this study showed that 1) there were 8
utterances that contained of traumatic childhood in Mocking Bird Don’t Sing by
Harry Bromley consisted of 2 (25%) for physical abuse, 2 (25%) for emotional
abuse, and 4 (100%) for complex trauma. The dominant type of traumatic
childhood in Mocking Bird Don’t Sing was complex trauma. It means that
complex trauma describes both children‘s exposure to multiple traumatic events,
often of an invasive, interpersonal nature, and the wide-ranging, long-term effects
of this exposure. 2) The effect of traumatic childhood in Mocking bird don’t sing
included of three concepts, namely depression/anxiety, coping with trauma, and
self-isolation. The effect of Katie‘s traumatic who suffer can experience shortterm
difficulties such as confusion, fear, difficulty concentrating, and low
confidence, as well as nightmares, aches, and a racing heart. Long-term
repercussions may include anxiety, insomnia, and social withdrawal
