Abstract
This study investigates the implementation of storytelling technique in teaching speaking narrative text for ninth-grade students at SMP PAB 8 Sampali. The research aims to analyze how the English teacher employs storytelling technique in the classroom setting. Data was collected from an English teacher and 33 students through observations and the use of video recording. The research instrument included transcripts of video recording to provide a comprehensive analysis of classroom interactions and teaching strategies. In analyzing data for data display, the researcher utilized Jianing’s stages, including warming upactivity and main activities consisting of activity 1, activity 2, activity 3 and activity 4. However, findings reveal that the teacher did not adhere to the Jianing stages but instead utilized her own approach to teaching narrative using storytelling. Despite deviations from the prescribed stages, significant insights were gained regarding the teacher’s methodology and its impact on studentlearning outcomes. Findings reveal deviations from the methods outlined by Jianing (2007), indicating a disparity between theoretical frameworks and
classroom practices. Despite some similarities in specific activities, significant differences in overall approach were observed, highlighting the need for alignment between theory and practice in language teaching.
