Abstract
The aim of this study was to find out students’s perceptions on the use of cartoon animation in teaching speaking. The participants of the study were 22 student of grade 8th Al-Faiz Islamic Boarding Shcool. The data was analyzed by using
descriptive qualitative. The data were collected by conducting observation, questionnaire and interview. The result of this study showed that the majority of the students gave positive responses to the implementation of cartoon animation in teaching speaking. The positive perceptions for learning speaking comprehension by using cartoon animation had many advantages, such as making learning more interesting, improving their communication skills, motivating students to be more active, and confident. Some of the students also gave negative perceptions that the cartoon animation technique in teaching speaking comprehension cannot help, motivate, and attract them in learning English, because they feel bored during the teaching and learning process.
