Abstract

The study elaborates hate speech in Harry Maguire‘s Twitter Account. The purpose of this study was to identify the types and intentions of hate speech in Twitter comments. In this descriptive qualitative study, the research data were examined using Mondal (2017) theory to explain the type of hate speech discovered in the comment section, and Kreidler (2002) theory to indicate the intentions of hate speech. Using Mondal (2017) and Kreidler (2002) theory, this study discovered 5 out of 10 types of hate speech, namely behavior, physical, class, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. While the most common intentions of the data appeared on insulting and the rests are mocking, accusing, blaming, and insinuating.
