The Flouting of Conversational Maxim in Deddy Corbuzier Podcast On Youtube

The purpose of this study is to investigate the flouting in conversational maxim used by host and guests in Deddy Corbuzier podcast used theory of cooperative principle by Grice. Applying Grice's (1975) principle to identify the process of structuring flouting in conversational maxims and to determine the kinds of flouting in conversational maxims. The object of this research is to investigate the kinds of flouting, to describe the realization of the strategies of the flouting maxims, and to explain the reasons of the flouting maxims. This research was conducted using a qualitative research design method. The data of this research were taken from utterances of the host and guests who flouting maxims. The source of the data in this study was taken from the YouTube video transcript in Deddy Corbuzier's podcast. Data was collected using a checklist of three video podcasts by Deddy Corbuzier on the topic of drugs and then analyzed based on the flouting of each maxim. The findings of this study revealed that all kinds of flouting maxim were flouted in podcasts. There are four kinds of flouting maxim on Deddy Corbuzier's podcast namely, maxim quantity, maxim quality, maxim relevance, and maxim manner. The most dominant flouted by guest and host was flouting maxim of quality. The last flouting maxim by guests is maxim manner, while by hosts is maxim of relevance. The flouting maxim were realized when speaker using strategies giving too much information, giving too little information, methapor, hyperbole, banter, irony, being obscure, and rhetorical question. This study found that host and guest flouted maxim for common reason to hide something, to cover something, to created a humor, to convince the hearer, to explain more about something, to interruption conversation, to stress something, to change the conversation, to provide unnecessary, to avoid talking about something, and to get attention.
