Abstract
This study aims to improve the ability of critical thinking and problem-solving mathematics Elementary School fifth grade students 132 405 Tanjungbalai through heuristic approach.
This research is a classroom action research that consists of four phases: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were students of class V SDN 132 405 Tanjungbalai. While the object of study is the overall process and learning outcomes of mathematics with application of a heuristic approach to improve critical thinking skills and problem solving. Instrument in the form of test, questionnaire, and observation sheet. Data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis.
The experiment was conducted in two cycles with four meetings by applying heuristic approach. The results showed that the application of a heuristic approach to the steps include: understanding the problem, exploration and problem solving plan, choose a strategy, implement the plan of solving the problem, reflect or check the answers and determine alternative solutions, can improve students' critical thinking skills and problem solving skills.
Application of learning heuristic approach has enhanced the ability of critical thinking Elementary School fifth grade students 132 405 Tanjungbalai of the test results 45.98% initial capability with very low qualifications increased in the first cycle to 69.68% with moderate qualifications and increased again in the second cycle to 83 , 83% with high qualifications
Application of learning heuristic approach has enhanced the ability of mathematical problem solving Elementary School fifth grade students 132 405 Tanjungbalai with initial capability test results 48.12% with very low qualifications increased in the first cycle to 73,41% with moderate qualifications and increased again in the second cycle becomes 81.74% with high qualifications
Students in learning effectiveness with increased heuristic approach by looking at the spread of scores or grades earned increasing student
Results of the questionnaire of 36 students found that students' response to learning keterlaksanaan heuristic approach in the first cycle reached 72.03% with good qualifications and cycle II reached 78.14% with good qualifications.
