Abstract
The phenomenon of Crazy Rich has indeed become a magnet for public attention in Indonesia. Indra Kenz was known as Crazy Rich Medan who went viral with his jargons and controversial action. The most controversial thing he did that got public’s attention was his role as a trading affiliate in Binomo. This study was conducted by identifying the data applying Grice’s Cooperative Principle theory (1975). This study aimed to investigate the types of flouting maxim, the ways of flouting maxim were realized, and the reasons why they were flouted by Indra Kenz as a trading affiliate where he was invited as a guest in the podcasts. The method of this research was descriptive research. The data of this research were the sentences of Indra Kenz that flouted the maxim of cooperative principles. It was found that there were total of 100 data that flouted the maxim of cooperative principles that were analyzed. The findings of this study revealed that all types of maxims were flouted in the podcasts. The most prominent flouting was flouting maxim of quantity (41%), then followed by flouting maxim of relation (22%), flouting maxim of quality (19%), and maxim of manner became the least maxim was flouted (16%). The researcher also found all types of maxim were flouted at the same time in two occurrences (2%). The flouting maxim were realized when the speaker responded through giving too much information, being irrelevant, ambiguous/obscure, giving wrong information, tautology, irony, giving too little information, hyperbole, metaphor, and rhetorical question. This study implicated that Indra Kenz flouted maxim for common reasons in order to to explain more about something, to stress something, to expect something, to show panic, to convince the addressee, to cover something, to hide something, to change the topic of conversation, to give unnecessary additional information, to avoid talking about something, to get attention, and to be clear.
